Evolution of cultures, and civilizations over the years gave birth to different styles in terms of communication. Writing is one such example, with parts of the world using different character sets, some of which are even dead. For instance, Devanagari Keyboard brings a dedicated keyboard to use Devanagari script characters.

Easily switch between layouts

It can be launched right after installation, with little time, and effort required throughout the setup process. The keyboard layout is changed right away, with an additional panel brought on your desktop to act as the virtual desktop. Although you might not recognize characters themselves, the layout is pretty intuitive, and common to a regular arrangement.

Apart from the desktop keyboard, a tray icon is also added. There’s a high chance you pay it a visit sooner than you expect, especially when you realize all keyboard interaction is now in Devanagari script. Needless to say there’s a dedicated toggle option, so you don’t have to close the application every time you want to switch to Latin characters. Luckily, this toggle command is also fitted with a hotkey.

Add audio typing effect

The desktop keyboard is usually always there, with no minimize function of its own. On the other hand, there is an option to hide it to the tray area, accessed from the tray icon, but it’s not fitted with a hotkey command. However, the keyboard doesn’t necessarily have to be on screen to be able to write in this character set.

A cool effect can be enabled from the sound menu. There’s only one option, but it’s enough to provide clean audio feedback for every button you press. The application can’t be made to run with Windows through conventional means, but you can add the shortcut to the Startup folder to bypass this.

On an ending note

Truth is most text editors come with support for different character sets and encodings, and chances are you find special symbols you need there. However, Devanagari Keyboard comes with a bold approach, providing just the set you need. It’s lightweight, and can easily be toggled, deserving a try overall.
